From UX to AI: 17+ Years Making Technology Work for People

Driving AI adoption through human-centered implementation.

Most AI implementations fail. Not because the technology doesn’t work, but because people don’t use it. After 17+ years designing digital experiences that people actually adopt, I recognised something in 2022/23: AI was transforming every industry, and most organisations were getting the implementation wrong. They focused on the technology and forgot the humans.

So I pivoted. I took everything I’d learned about user research, adoption psychology, and human-centered design, and applied it to AI implementation. The result? An 85% implementation success rate where the industry average is 5%.

As Director of Mode Globale Ltd, I help organisations implement AI that their teams actually use. I’m also building The Virtuoso Academy : a healthcare AI education platform addressing the 95% implementation failure rate by teaching wellness professionals to integrate AI without losing the human touch.

MY JOURNEY

2007-2021: Mastering the Human Side of Technology: For 15 years, I obsessed over one question: why do people adopt some technologies and abandon others? Working across healthcare, education, and multi-company portfolios, I learned that successful digital transformation isn’t about the technology : it’s about the humans using it.

Key achievements:

  • Led UX strategy across 6 portfolio companies achieving 90% tool adoption (3x industry average)
  • Generated £300K+ through digitally-driven campaigns
  • Earned critical acclaim from The Guardian UK
  • Nominated for IAMAI Digital Awards
  • Developed frameworks for user research, adoption psychology, and change management

2022-Present: Applying UX Principles to AI: When ChatGPT launched in late 2022, I saw both the opportunity and the problem. AI would transform every industry, but without human-centered implementation, most organisations would fail. I had spent more than 10+ years solving exactly this problem.

Since pivoting to AI implementation:

  • 85% AI implementation success rate (vs 5% industry average)
  • 500% ROI increase for UK education company through AI-powered content strategy
  • 100+ AI readiness assessments using proprietary framework
  • Building The Virtuoso Academy for healthcare AI education

WHY UX EXPERTISE MATTERS FOR AI

The 95% failure rate isn’t a technology problem. It’s a human problem.:

What Technologists Focus On:
Model accuracy
Feature capabilities
Technical performance
Data architecture

What Actually Drives Adoption:
Workflow integration
User confidence
Change management
Training & support

My UX background means I solve for the right side of this table. I’ve spent 15 years learning why people adopt or abandon technology. AI is just the latest, and most transformative, technology to require this expertise.

The Skills That Transfer:

  1. User Research : Understanding how teams actually work before introducing AI
  2. Journey Mapping : Identifying where AI creates value vs. friction
  3. Prototyping : Testing AI workflows before full deployment
  4. Adoption Psychology : Designing rollouts that build confidence, not resistance
  5. Change Management : Helping organizations navigate the human side of AI
